Well-being with deep roots and simple practices
July 27, 2025
At Casa Carolina, we believe that true luxury is feeling balanced. That rest isn’t just about closing your eyes, but also about opening your body, calming your mind, and returning to your center. That’s why our wellness approach goes beyond a moment of relaxation: it stems from an ancient, living, and powerful philosophy called Ayurveda.
Perhaps you’ve heard of it before. Or perhaps not. And that’s okay. Ayurveda isn’t something you need to understand in depth to begin experiencing. It’s a way of living more connected to what’s essential, to your body, and to nature.
What is Ayurveda?
Ayurveda means “the science of life.” It’s a health system that originated in India more than 5,000 years ago and seeks balance between body, mind, and spirit. It’s based on a simple yet powerful idea: each person is unique, and therefore their path to well-being should be too.
Ayurveda is based on three energies, or doshas: Vata (air and ether), Pitta (fire and water), and Kapha (earth and water). We all have a particular combination of these energies, and when one becomes unbalanced, physical or emotional symptoms appear.
Therefore, this philosophy invites us to understand our energy type and adjust daily habits such as diet, rest, routines, and movement to maintain balance.
How is Ayurveda experienced at Casa Carolina?
Bringing this ancestral wisdom to the Caribbean has been a conscious and respectful process of adaptation. At Casa Carolina, we fuse the principles of Ayurveda with the tropical essence of Cartagena. Here, balance is felt in the skin, in the aromas, in the flavors, in the rhythms.
In our spa, we offer personalized Ayurvedic rituals according to your dosha, working with natural oils, medicinal plants, and ancestral techniques that help release toxins, promote deep relaxation, and restore the flow of vital energy. Abhyanga massage, for example, is performed with warm oils all over the body and promotes detoxification, improves circulation, and reduces anxiety. Shirodhara therapy, where warm oil is poured over the area between the eyebrows, helps calm the mind and relieve insomnia.
But Ayurveda isn’t confined to the treatment room. It’s present in our kitchen, in the way we invite you to inhabit time, to choose rest with intention, to reconnect.

Want to start applying Ayurveda to your life? Here are some simple tips:
- Know your dosha Many tests are available online to discover your predominant energy type (Vata, Pitta, or Kapha). This is a first step toward understanding which foods, routines, and environments balance or deplete you.
- Establish a daily routine (Dinacharya) Ayurveda highly values stability and rhythm. Waking up and going to bed at the same time, starting the day with a glass of warm water, or taking a light walk in the morning are all Ayurvedic practices.
- Eat according to your body type For example, if you are Pitta (fire), fresh, raw, and light foods can help you find balance. If you are Vata (air), warm and nourishing foods like soups, stews, or herbal teas with mild spices will support you better.
- Take conscious pauses to breathe. Something as simple as inhaling deeply through your nose for four seconds, holding your breath for four more, and exhaling slowly is an Ayurvedic practice that regulates the nervous system.
- Self-massage with oil (Abhyanga at home) Before showering, you can massage your body with sesame, coconut, or almond oil. This helps calm the nervous system, improve circulation, and connect you with your body.
An experience that stays with you.
At Casa Carolina, we believe that wellness isn’t a trend or just a checkmark on a list. It’s a way to reconnect with yourself. And while you don’t need to know everything about Ayurveda to start living more balanced, learning about it can be a gateway to changing small things… and feeling big differences.
Our purpose is to offer you an experience that honors rest, the body, silence, and self-care. Here, we guide you to pause. To listen. To begin anew.
When you come, you’ll be in a place where time doesn’t flow, but rather expands. And where every detail is designed to bring you back to yourself.
We await you with calm, with soul, and with presence.
